This postcard is inspired by one from 1899 featuring a very tiny, grainy black and white photo superimposed on some greyscale (seemingly random) botanical drawings. The only color on the original was the red used for the writing. My alterations include a tighter grouping of plants and, since the original lettering used red, bringing out the red of the flowers to add a bit more pop of color.

I used a photo taken last winter as I did not have any from within the village. I find Plate to be charmingly picturesque – especially from afar. Once the photo was changed to black and white, the postcard started to come to life.
