This postcard is inspired by one from 1890-ish Dresden with charming hand lettering and delicate filigree painting around the frame of the scene. The original featured the Hauptstrasse (of which I did not have a photo) so I used a photo of the Kronentor that was taken in 2018. One thing I still struggle with is making the featured image look less like a photo and more like a painted picture. I feel that I keep missing the mark – perhaps it is the amount of detail in the photos compared to the paintings on these old postcards. I made a second one in portrait to post on Instagram but the original card was oriented as landscape.
